The World of Glass is a family friendly museum and art gallery in the heart of St Helens. It has family friendly interactive galleries, glass blowing demonstrations and workshops, the historic Tank House, a café and a shop selling glass hand blown on site.

Our permanent galleries are brand new from 2023, telling the story of St Helens and glass in a fun and family friendly way.

Ever wonder what life was like in a Victorian town? Step into St Helens past and relive life in the town in the last century.

Find out about properties of glass, look through periscopes and microscopes, and play with lenses to change the colours in light.

Admire contemporary glass and the unique and beautiful designs from some of the Worlds greatest makers.

Tank House

Built in 1887, The Tank House is where William Windle Pilkington perfected the regenerative process and continuous glass making. Its the reason The World Of Glass stands on this site!

Glass Blowing

Watch our glass maker work his magic in our studio, blowing glass and creating beautiful pieces to sell in our shop for you to take home. We also hold glass workshops, and can create bespoke experiences for individuals, groups and corporate events.

We also offer a sensitive and private service for you and your family to incorporate your loved one or loved pet’s ashes in beautiful crafted glass pieces.

The Shop

The World of Glass shop contains beautiful and unique pieces of glass made here on site by our resident glass blower. If we haven’t got what you are looking for we are happy to make something especially for you.

Our café offers snacks, lunch and homemade cakes for you to enjoy during your visit.
